In 2021, the owners of Parceros, a family from Cali, Colombia, made the decision to come to the United States. Like many immigrants, Orlando Joven and Sandra Mejia were in search of a better future and a peaceful life for their children. The idea for this business began with Orlando’s dream of having his own restaurant coupled with his deep love for Colombian cuisine. Recognizing the absence of something similar in Northwest Arkansas, they saw a promising market and embarked on the journey to bring this beautiful dream to life, to share a taste of their extensive and delicious Colombian gastronomy.

Orlando’s professional background in Colombia was in administrative roles related to transit and transportation in their city, while his wife had experience managing bakeries and a bar in Cali. Yet, cooking was Orlando’s true passion from a very young age, inspired by his grandmother.

Orlando and Sandra encourage other entrepreneurs to take the leap, to believe it’s possible. “Organizations like the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center are there to guide and educate, ensuring that your project has a chance to thrive. They help you grow and show you that the biggest limitation lies in your own mind, because it is possible,” they said.

Orlando and his family are dreamers, full of hopes and eager to move forward. They want to introduce Colombia through its cuisine. They want people to see their food truck as a place to gather with friends and family, to have a pleasant time together, a break from the routine of everyday life. This is what “Los Parceros” is about – being friends, and that’s how they see their customers.

Every dish they serve is crafted to provide an experience, a moment to savor and relax from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Each dish is made with love, and it brings them immense joy to see faces light up with happiness when someone tries something new. It’s a source of pride for them to bring a piece of Colombia to Arkansas.

Any advice for other small business owners?

“It’s still early to offer advice for a venture that’s just beginning, but we believe that the dedication, love, and passion you invest in what you do will lead to success, and we hope this will be reflected in our food truck,” said Orlando.

How did ASBTDC help them?

ASBTDC opened a door to invaluable knowledge for them. As small business owners, they didn’t know where to start – they only had a dream. The Center provided them with all the resources they needed to bring their project to life. They are infinitely grateful for the support. With ASBTDC complimentary services, they didn’t have to spend a single dollar, and the guidance from their consultant Carolina Mejia was unwavering.
