This semester our Marketing Consultant, Lindsay Ramsey, instructed an undergraduate class at the University of Arkansas Sam M. Walton College of Business. Her course, Entrepreneurship & Small Enterprise Management, focused primarily on small enterprise opportunities and problems emphasizing innovation, management planning and control, financing, marketing and legal requirements.
Lindsay’s goal was to have her students to leave the class better prepared for owning, operating or participating in the management of a small business venture. In order to reach her goal, Lindsay invited many credible guest speakers to her lecture, allowing for students to hear many perspectives from experienced, local entrepreneurs and businessmen/women.
Further class conversions and discussions ranged from financial planning and management, customer discovery, leadership, marketing and digital marketing, and how to effectively build your brand. Lindsay presented her students with a consulting project, allowing her students to strategically analyze a local small business, perform a brief study on, and make recommendations for changes to improve its performance.
With her own expertise in entrepreneurship and small business management, Lindsay’s lecture brought a fresh perspective to the class. By going beyond hypotheticals, assigned reading materials, and memorized terms, students found the confidence to grow in their business knowledge, ultimately better equipping them to enter the workforce. Many students also reported that after Lindsay’s class they feel more confident in opening a small business of their own one day.
Lindsay’s students were eager to share the positive influence her class has had on them. One student shared,
“At the beginning of the semester, when we talked about our pain points, mine was definitely marketing. I didn’t have much of an interest for it. However, I have an entirely different idea of marketing now, after the way you taught it.”
We love seeing our consultants mentor and shape the lives of the next generation. We are so proud of you Lindsay and we congratulate you on your first successful semester as an instructor!
